At the Wharton Trust, we base everything we do on the principles of community organising. This approach means we start by listening deeply to what matters most to the people who live here. We believe that the answers to the challenges our community faces lie within the community itself. By having one-to-one conversations, running listening campaigns, and helping people come together around shared concerns, we support local residents to develop their leadership, build strong relationships, and take collective action. We’re not here to do things for people—we’re here to work with them.
Using community organising as our foundation keeps us grounded, connected, and focused on what truly matters to local people. It’s helped us grow a network of active citizens who support one another, influence decisions, and have the potential to drive real change in our area. Whether we’re working to tackle poverty, challenge injustice, or simply bringing neighbours together, we always come back to the same core belief: that when people have the power to act, they can transform their own lives and the community around them.
