Employment, Education and Skills

We have Ambition

Narrow the attainment gap and get ahead of the employment, education and skills curve so local people can take advantage of the infrastructure investment taking place. Working with educationalists, training providers, community anchors, community businesses and TVCA.

  • Ensure the Shared Prosperity fund is used flexibly and is more locally driven with devolved resources to allow more people to access appropriate, non-mandated, training including first step type activities. Create a local skills gateway and expand this into a new skills academy linked to HDC/Freeport and run on community business principles.
  • Offer young people the best opportunities in the North East. Provide opportunities for out of school activities by piloting the National Youth Guarantee; giving access to community leadership and participation training. Creation of a youth voice and volunteering opportunities by offering community leadership to new projects with mentoring and skills development.
  • Reduce exclusions from school and to support young people who are not reaching their potential in school and need additional support. We will provide innovative solutions using alternative community-led provision including a free school for 14-19 year olds run on community business principles.
