Wharton Trust, aka - The Annexe

Dyke House is a great place made up of fantastic people who either, live, work or volunteer here. Over the last ten years, local residents, community anchors and others have come together to make real and sustainable improvements in the area.

We’ve taken action on things we care about, dedicating tens of thousands of hours to making Dyke House an even better place, working together, encouraging each other and making positive change.

This document records the impact of our collective efforts to date and sets out an ambitious agenda, with a series of asks, which will not only consolidate the changes we’ve made so far; but also will act as a springboard to our future. A future in which anyone who loves Dyke House has the time, resources and skills to contribute to take us even further.

Many of the challenges facing local people in Dyke House are the result of long term macro-economic policies which have recently come under the spotlight as the current government looks to ‘level up’. We may not be able to directly impact this, but there are some things we can have an influence over and this is where we have started.

We have delivered a wide range of innovative community business-led solutions to solve many of the issues facing Dyke House.

We have a socially minded, engaged and willing community – we aren’t waiting for someone to rescue us – we are already taking action; but we want to do more. We want to build on the last decade, to have more influence, more control over investment decisions and to build on what has already proved to be successful.

The next steps will be transformational and offer the potential to truly ‘level up’ Dyke House. We have a once in a generation opportunity to build a model which demonstrates the potential of community power to fundamentally shift the things which are holding us back.

We know what works here. We are ready for the next steps and we have a plan. We will continue to innovate, take risks and try different things.

As a community, together, we make change for good.
